Unfortunately, the only document UKOM received from STA was an invoice for an alleged public service performed in March in the amount of EUR 169,000.00.
Director Veselinović’s behavior seems more than unusual, but it is in any case unacceptable and reprehensible. First of all with regard to all employees of the Slovenian News Agency who care about the future of the company and want, like the government of the Republic of Slovenia, the transparent and legal functioning of their company. Transparency of operations also equates to decent and fair compensation for all employees and not just for certain individuals.
As is already known, the Government Communication Office forwarded several requests to the Director of the STA in October 2020 to submit documents in accordance with Article 6 of the contract between UKOM and STA. These documents should include:
- the monthly income statement for the last 24 months and the balance sheet,
- account cards of all income of the last 24 months,
- bank statements from the last 24 months,
- copies of all contracts with customers,
- list of all customers and all possible price changes for each year separately – for the last five years.
Why did UKOM request the relevant documentation? It was previously established in May 2020 that the director of the STA suffered a monthly loss in the amount of EUR 5,000.00 resulting from the public service. Upon further investigation, it was determined that this loss had been offset in previous years by an arbitrary number of appendices to the base contracts. Operations in 2020 were defined similarly. Regardless of the fact that the base contract was concluded on December 19, 2019, the director of the STA discovered two months later that he had made an error in the business plan and entered into an additional contract with UKOM for EUR 50,000.00. For these reasons, the director of the STA was asked in June 2020 to consolidate operations. But he nevertheless repeatedly showed the same loss in monthly reports.
UKOM has also detected suspicions of abuse of position by Director Veselinović regarding the so-called counter-trade with certain companies. Most notable was the company in which he ran full-page ads and where he was previously employed. According to some data, the compensations with this company began immediately after Veselinović was appointed director of the STA. As has been revealed publicly, the STA allegedly suffered damages in the amount of EUR 250,000.00 by making payments to this particular company.
